Early Cedar Falls Press History by K A Snyder
In Cedar Falls the Cedar Falls Banner and early papers reflect 58 years of growth from a wooden press at Tipton to a four-daily and weekly system. The piece recalls founders H H Meredith W H McClure and P Speer, the Banner’s July 11 1864 start, and the move to Waterloo forming the Black Hawk Courier later The Waterloo Courier. It notes early editors J H Hartman J H Leavitt and E A Snyder with ties to Haddock and Ingersoll and the evolving newspaper landscape including the Cedar Falls Gazette and its consolidation.
