Williamsburg Sept 3 AP A Rock Island passenger engineer Ernest Stopler dairy farmer narrowly escaped a vicious bull attack. The bull charged knocked him down gored him in the side as he walked through a pasture. The approaching train braked and blew four sharp whistles frightening the animal to flee, allowing Stopler to crawl under a fence. The same engine’s whistle once frightened the bull off the tracks two years ago.
Crestau, Iowa, Sept. 5. Pierson, cashier of the insolvent State Savings Bank of Avishieh, closed March 1, faces ten indictments. A jury spent 11 hours deliberating on charges including making false reports of the bank’s condition and alleged fraudulent activities against Pierson.

W W Whitenack, longtime Waterloo resident and Odd Fellows member, plans to leave Monday morning for Marehailtown to enter the Soldiers' Home. He will try life there for about a month and may return if not satisfied. He served four years four months in the Twelfth United Volunteer Infantry, reenlisting after his first term. He has earned the grand decoration and a loyal service jewel. He has held memberships across the order’s branches and in the Patrimena Militant group.

Vinton Iowa September 5. Peter F Peterson a farmer learned a new view of the law on issuing checks after paying a fine. He wrote a debt payment check to Porta City based auto firm, and told the firm he had no money in bank. The Justice of Peace Burnham ruled that the act of writing and delivering the check shows the maker has funds in the bank regardless of verbal statements.
Advertising for the 1924 Carry Cattle Congress will begin next Thursday as 80 Waterloo auto loads depart to visit towns within 150 miles and prompt newspaper editors to publicize the show. Rotary Kiwanis Lions and Conopus clubs aid. the effort marks the fourth year of outreach to attract visitors and foster goodwill toward Waterloo.

Charles J Longley of Boise Idaho, visiting his son Alfred, plans to attend the sixtieth reunion of the Twenty fourth Iowa Infantry at Cedar Rapids. As president of the regiment al association he notes only about 100 of 7260 members are living. He had intended to go to the national convention at Grand Rapids Michigan but heat altered plans. he expects to return home in about 10 days.
Members of Waterloo Council Order of DeMolay held their monthly meeting in Masonic Temple last night. Quarterly election of officers scheduled last night was deferred due to lack of quorum. Election date to be announced soon by Walter Scheel, advisor. Only routine business matters were addressed.
