Fire at Ocean Park Casino Pier in Los Angeles
A blaze from a defective flue at the Casino cafe on Ocean Park caused one death and $2.26 million in damage. Seven men jumped from Frazier pier ends. six were rescued, but Casino chef E. W. Leach drowned. Fires spread through the concession district toward Venice as winds shifted. volunteers and California National Guard aided efforts to control the blaze.

McCord Wins Republican Nomination in Sixth District
Milton A. McCord of Newton secured the Republican nomination for congress in the Sixth district at Ottumwa on the eighth ballot after Ed L. Roth led initially. The convention backed McCord unanimously following his Chicago platform pledge, and he planned to launch his campaign with a speech at Eldon Soldiers Camp tomorrow night.
