California Forest Fires Threaten California Ranches
Two large fires raged across California. A Pine Valley blaze near San Francisco burned about 2,000 more acres on a four mile front threatening homes including Jackie Coogan’s residence. North near Mount Shasta, 450 firefighters hauled water to stop a 22,000 acre brush and timber fire deported out of bounds.

Store Moves to Remodeled Building in Independence
Independence Iowa September 4 Courier Special Service reports the Graham Stores company will relocate next week to the recently purchased and remodeled building by C. F. Judge. The structure will be ready for occupancy about September 10, with Independence Gas Company offices to be housed there.

Firefighting Crews Contain Large California Blaze
The McCloud River Lumber Company ceased operations and sent workers to fight fires near Mount Shasta and in the Yreka area. East of Bakersfield near Democrat Hot Springs the blaze charred over 3,200 acres but was reported under control.
