Northwest African Methodist Episcopal conference opens in Albany
The eighth meeting of the Northwest Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church will convene September 5 at the Albany church on Albany and Moline streets. Rt. Rev Archibald Carey Jr. of Chicago will preside, guiding a convention that emphasizes ministerial efficiency and literary work. The church spans about 750,000 members, 5,000 pastors, 7,000 churches, 26 bishops, and 108 annual conferences across the U.S., Canada, Africa, and more. The Northwest boundary covers Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and parts of Canada. The conference includes a women’s Mite Missionary society meeting from September 4, with talks by Gertrude Rhononee and Rev. Mrs Slater, and ends September 7 with Bishop Carey installing new officers. Duke Slater, noted football star, is among the Slaters connected to the event.

Yellow Cab adds fifth Fairchild monoplane for Des Moines airport
The Yellow Cab Taxi company acquired a new Fairchild monoplane powered by a Wasps 420 horsepower engine and capable of 140 miles per hour for country flying from the Des Moines municipal airport.
