Power in Rivers Prompts Massive Cedar Rapids Plant Plans
Cedar Rapids officials reveal Iowa Railway & Light Co plans to harness the Cedar, Maquoketa, and Wapsipinicon rivers with eight to eleven plants. President William G. Dows says the project could cost four to six million dollars and take six to seven years to complete, with sites at Shellsford, Palisades, Cedar Bluffs, Rochester, Cedar Valley, Canton, and two more on the Maquoketa. The venture aims to meet rising electricity demand as homes, factories, and farms seek power.
