Tombstone Robbery Charges Dismissed in Municipal Court

Judge George J. Sager dismissed larceny charges against Arthur Poffenberger and his mother Mrs. Ferbey Berry after finding no evidence they stole the tombstone from the grave of Mrs. Bertha K. Peterson. The pair had been arrested last May on information filed by Mrs. Peterson, who alleged the stone was defaced and rechiselled for the grave of Mrs. Berry's husband. The defense said they bought the stone as second-hand from A. C. Ryan in 1922. The Peterson stone was reportedly stolen between the summer of 1925 and 1926, with the loss discovered on Memorial Day 1926.
