Livestock Profit Seen From Higher Prices in 1928
Oscar G. Mayer of Chicago, head of the Institute of American Meat Packers, told the Atlantic City meeting that U S prices for cattle calves sheep and hogs in the first seven to eight months of 1928 ran well above 1927 levels. He noted meat imports totaling about 180 million pounds and urged stabilized hog production to ease market swings for producers, consumers and packers. He said production may rise slightly in 1928 with pork and lamb gains offsetting declines in beef and veal.

Experiment Station Tests Hay Moisture and Curing Methods
Iowa State College researchers led by Prof. H. D. Hughes tested drying times and salt effects on hay stored in field mows. Experiments tracked moisture levels from 28 to 35 percent, noting two heating phases and the role of outside temperatures. Salt at or above one percent by weight reduced the second heating, with field baling and a novel weigh-in-windrow device aiding measurements.
