Miners Win Under Compensation Law in Iowa
Des Moines reports the Iowa Supreme Court ruled a liberal method for calculating coal miners' compensation under the workmen's compensation law. The decision sets 50 percent of average weekly wage with a $10 maximum and $5 minimum for up to 400 weeks, based on gross earnings without deductions for powder or blacksmithing. Justice B I Salinger notes that earnings for mining determine compensation, and outlays for explosives and tools do not alter the mining earnings for calculation.
