Farm Bureau urges reform of rail acts amid wage and rate battles
The Farm Bureau Federation urges repeal or amendment of the Cummins Esch and Adamson acts arguing they hurt rail rates and burdens on basic goods. It cites a proposed 10 to 20 percent freight cut on essentials, filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission, to save shippers up to 200 million annually. The Federation criticizes railroad leadership for resisting cuts and notes government subsidy claims and surplus figures, calling for immediate action and more state rights in intrastate regulation.
