Bryan sought to beat Wilson in Baltimore scheme

Washington report tracks William Inglis claims that Col. George Harvey tried to press Col. Bryan to adjourn the Baltimore convention for 30 days to derail Wilson’s nomination. Inglis portrays Harvey’s maneuvers from Wilson’s Princeton days to the New Jersey governorship, with Bryan’s suspected role in pressuring adjournment and shifting support away from Wilson. Secretary Lansing avoids political campaigning, returning home to Watertown, saying foreign affairs should stay out of domestic politics.
