Des Moines reports Iowa August births totaled 2 455 with 1 734 boys and 1 712 girls while deaths reached 1 783 including 987 males and 786 females. Mortality rose among ages 75 to 79 with other elderly cohorts following. Cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis, and accidents dominated causes.
