Special Agent Ward Fined In Waterloo Arrest Case
Special agent G S Ward of the Illinois Central was fined $100 for disorderly conduct after being arrested on a warrant for impersonating an officer. He had earlier arrested Charles Thompson, a striking machinist, at the Waterloo depot. Thompson testified Ward grabbed him for no ticket and used abusive language. Ward appealed the $100 fine as an improper arrest without a warrant. Two other Illinois Central deputies Verdy and Wirts were arrested, then released pending hearing. Mayor Rector defended policing actions amid jurisdictional disputes.
