Hildegarde The Strongest Norris Novel From Kathleen Norris

Kathleen Norris in Hildegarde, Doubleday, Page & Co., presents a deeply emotional rather than intellectual heroine whose voyage through love, fame, and family tests her strength. Critics note the book’s vivid, human characters and a tale rooted in harsh early life shaping the protagonist’s fate and choices. Margaret Wilson returns to England after visiting America, while Gertrude Atherton advances a new Aspasia novel under Boni and Liveright. A major anthology, Great Short Stories of the World, edited by Barrett H. Clark and Maxim Lieber, claims to be the most complete one-volume collection, with 177 stories from 35 literatures. An aspiring French critic is told his critique has dull passages, and Maxime Gorky’s Decadence is announced by Robert M. McBride & Co. for fall. Also noted is Nineteen Modern Essays featuring works by Wells, Bennett, Galsworthy, Yeats, and others.
