Price recovery felt in Des Moines country markets
Des Moines dispatch notes better rural business conditions than cities with farm sale prices high. Cedar county corn tops $1.05 a bushel, field corn $28.50 per acre, wheat 1.50, oats 59 cents, hay $11 a ton. Cattle prices at markets set record highs, Holsteins $70 to $165 and spring shoats $9 to $16. Iowa’s cattle intake down about 23 percent, pasture and feed conditions improving, land sales active with farms $200 to $225. Gov James Kirkwood to be honored at University of Iowa ceremonies November 5, with replicas of Winnie Ream Hoxie’s statue planned.
