Cornpickers to be paid 6 or 7 cents per bushel
Des Moines reports from county agents and the state employment office indicate cornpickers will average 6 cents per bushel where elevators are used and 7 cents without. Corn yields range from 40 to 70 bushels per acre, with cornpicking starting in Pocahontas and Calhoun counties this week and more counties soon. About 35,000 workers were sent to jobs, and E G Albert notes there is no shortage of cornpickers as the crop is excellent, with a projected 415 million bushels of high quality produce.
