Rowley Reverses Blame for Van Buren Tax Hike
Des Moines reports editor John W. Rowley of the Keosauqua Republican exonerates the state executive council from fault for inflated Van Buren county valuations. An investigation showed Auditor Duckworth overvalued properties by about 2 181 901 dollars, causing higher taxes. The county supervisors, aided by council secretary Davison, propose correcting valuations to relieve taxpayers in 1945 and credit excess payments, reducing next year’s burden by about 50 000 dollars.
