Dope Fiend Tries on Bigamy Charge in Iowa Trial

In Charles City, Oct. 11, Robert McClelland faced a bigamy case. Defense argued mental unsoundness due to morphine, claiming no valid marriage to Ruth Thompson and that his later marriage to Rose Fingalson was not bigamy. Witnesses testified to prior marriages and records, while the state presented corroborating evidence. The defendant’s mother and sister testified, and an inscription in his cell referenced the 1910 arrest and alleged bigamy, with the defense pushing insanity as a factor.
