Match Tossed In Roadside Burns A Figure Of Homes
Washington, Oct. 10. On the third day of August a man set fire to more than twenty homes. All were destroyed though none were insured as the trees awaited industry to become houses. An auto party sightseeing along a Douglas fir stand sparked the blaze with a discarded cigarette. Fire crews battled for days amid smoke, heat, and falling timber, with hundreds of acres scarred and the forest risk renewed by lingering embers. Tourists meanwhile rode on, unaware of the blaze.
