Waterloo Hospital Center Sheds Light on Local Health Care
The Waterloo hospital system features three major groups: Allen Memorial, St Francis, and Presbyterian. Allen Memorial sits on Logan Avenue with 90 beds and opened February 15, 1925 operated by the Deaconess Society. St Francis on Independence Avenue began in 1911 and opened December 17, 1912 with 160 rooms under the Franciscan Sisters. Presbyterian on Leavitt and West Ninth opened November 1904 with about 40 beds and is run by a board of Waterloo leaders. Plans call for a new Presbyterian hospital near the current site.
