County Tax Levy Of 1824 Lifts Mills To 49.69
The 1924 levy in Black Hawk County rises to 49.69 mills from 26.92 in 1923 due mainly to a 3 mill bovine tuberculosis levy and higher general, interest, and sinking fund levies for bonds due in 1927. Some areas like Waterloo and Cedar Falls exempt bridge levies. Cedar Falls sees a slight school levy increase. Refundable bond plans are questioned as too costly, prompting a shift to heavier levies now to retire bonds. Municipal comparisons show Waterloo east and west, Cedar Falls, Porte City, and other towns with varying millages.
