Current Business Conditions Outlook From National City Bank
The August monthly letter from National City Bank of New York notes signs of improvement by late September, driven by seasonal factors in the shoe, cotton, and woolen goods industries. Raw cotton rose to about 20 cents per pound, but cotton goods lagged in price adjustments, with mills holding stock and facing higher costs if cotton prices rise. The piece discusses crop activity, farm price impacts, rising unemployment, and the need for reduced industrial costs to restore balanced growth, alongside calls for prudent labor leadership and coordinated public and private adjustments.
