The Protone Company advertises a no cost trial of Protone by sending a 0c package with full instructions and a book on why you are thin. Readers are asked to enclose 10¢ in stamps or silver to cover postage, with the Waterloo sellers noted as H W Taggart and B W Schuneman.
The Des Moines city council advanced fire department efficiency with a new motor truck, four more firefighters, and revised days off. A plan to safeguard the upcoming dairy show buildings was discussed, with hydrant access and an expanded fire response area to be arranged. The finance committee was authorized to award a soft coal contract for winter.
Rev J M Bamford of Logan Avenue Evangelical plans special revival services at the church beginning Sunday. Prayer meetings are set tonight at locations citywide with leaders named. Butter from the Bremer county fair sold at public auction along Bremer avenue last Saturday. Prices averaged 40 cents per pound. Benrs Hauser of Cylinder, Ia, delivered the top butter at 30 cents for 8 pounds. Oberdorf’s creamery near the top sold at 83 cents for 4 pounds, bought by A. Nelann. Northerly creamery butter from Hadley sold to FR. Farwell for 40 42 cents, and Finchford creamery’s entry sold to F. S. Taner for 39 cents.
Dex Moines Oct 2 The state horticultural official Wesley Greene says the government estimate of twenty five percent is too high and believes fifteen percent is about right for Iowa. He cites last year’s dry end affecting blossoms and predicts a strong crop next year barring severe freezes or late frosts.
A Triangle club straw vote among Iowa State University faculty showed Wilson leading Taft and Roosevelt. A student poll is expected before the election to gauge further preferences.
