The coroner's jury returned a sealed verdict and the public will await the grand jury's opportunity to investigate. No arrests have been made and none are expected until the grand jury reports next week.
William S. Kelly, visiting from Abington DC, was robbed of 37.50 by two men with pistols who seized his turkey and money. The turkey escaped, running toward Illinois, leaving Kelly with 20.16 unaccounted cash. Kelly says he would have paid 40 for the bird, lamenting losing the gobbler.
The Turnbull vs Strifert case in Vinton Iowa ended with a verdict for the plaintiff. The judge found misrepresentation of value in a hotel land trade near Waterloo rather than outright fraud. Other items note high school declamation finalists, a captured bald eagle, and local social visits.
The unknown negro shot and fatally wounded at Greeley Sunday by a crowd of young farmers died in Manchester. A coroner's jury found the shooting will be investigated. the chase began after the town marshal declared the man was wanted dead or alive for a reward.
