Moore Says Don't Print Prosperity Too Rosy

Iowa business remains conservative with slow collections and mixed activity, though general improvement continues. E R Moore of Cedar Rapids argues against rosy financial views, noting a gradual normal balance returning to the country. Federal Land Bank reports Iowa farm loans strong with minimal past-due risk, and a large loan total with no foreclosures. Lumber yards in five towns change hands to C H Westerman of Texas, while Milwaukee shops cut staff temporarily and plan consolidations in Cedar Rapids. Yearling cattle fetch high prices at Omaha market, and northern Iowa sugar beet factories report strong beet shipments ahead of December 1 closing.

Stone Pebble Forehead Vision Tells Ancient Shore Tale

A long narrative describes a November morning along a railway and a pebble found with two cup-like pits on its upper face. The author claims ancient rain-drop imprints and, via a psychic ritual, visualizes a Miocene coast with pterodactyls and a plesiosaurus, then surveys a gravel pit, a cedar valley landscape, and a sacrificial stone with hawk prints. The piece weaves geological relics, mystic ideas, and local place lore, ending with notes on Cedar River names and indigenous terms.
