Tax cut plans spark fight in Congress and nation

A House Ways and Means panel reaches a tax reduction package totaling about 3235.82 million, roughly 10 million more than Mellon’s proposal and 15 million below the panel’s first estimate. The plan trims corporate rates, auto sales tax, and admissions, preserves the inheritance tax, and raises prize fight ticket tax. Efforts against the bill face southern opposition and possible Chamber of Commerce pressure, with overall reductions still short of Democratic goals. The piece also surveys critiques of justice, crime, and governance highlights across the nation.
