British forces report fresh combat around Berlin as the battle resumes after a lull. Allied lines claim a fierce encounter with German positions. Strong action but unclear outcome with cameras famed as symbolic capture cited.
British forces surge toward Cambrai in renewed fighting as cavalry tanks and infantry break German lines. Byng promoted general, Haig reports strong advance, prisoners surpassing 9,000 as civilians return from liberated towns amid destruction.
Jeremiah A. O Leary, president of the American Truth society and editor of The Nut, a publication barred from the mails, was indicted today on charges of violating the espionage act and the postal laws. The case centers on alleged advocacy and distribution linked to the periodical.
Nearly 1,000 student officers received commissions at Fort Snelling as a second training camp opens next week. The list includes majors, captains, first and second lieutenants from Iowa cities such as Des Moines Davenport Cedar Rapids Dubuque Ottumwa Mason City and Burlington with diverse infantry artillery and signal roles. A related Camp Dodge class notes an opening Jan 5 with about 500 candidates and a limit of second lieutenant as the highest grade. Lieut. Col. Parrott named commandant and 17 instructors chosen.
Reinheld A Faust, a Chicago postal clerk, confessed to placing a bomb at the Auditorium during a grand opera last Friday to frighten the public and extort $100,000 from bankers J B Forgan and Frank O Wetmore. He planned escape, claimed no murder intent, and said he acted alone amid claims of insanity.
Refugees from Wherated towns marched toward British lines amid tanks and cheers. American relief fed civilians for three years of German occupation while houses were plundered and men of military age jailed. A hiding husband, fed by his wife, emerged as the British liberated the town after August 1914.
London reports a large tank force in Tuesday’s advance with more machines engaged than in any prior action. Casualties were limited, with some units knocked out by direct hits, overturned, bogged, or sinking into soft ground, yet the majority pressed forward.
Flame reports Austro-German assault around Monte Moletta failed as Italians held all positions after several repeated river-front attacks. Counter strikes stopped the invaders toward evening, with heavy fighting continuing along the Brenta and Piave fronts.

Bolshevik foreign minister Leon Trotzky announces an immediate armistice offer based on democratic peace and non annexations. The message, transmitted to the U S through Ambassador David R. Francis, requests open negotiations. Paris and London report the dispatch as a major step in war policy.
Paris Nov. 23 reports another German attempt to recapture ground lost to the French on the Aisne front was checked by French fire. The latest war bulletin notes a stout French defense halting the advance and maintaining positions on the line.
Amsterdam dispatch notes German newspapers prepare public for Jerusalem loss. Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung argues defending Jeru salem would be a useless sacrifice of Turkish and German troops, and abandoning the city, while painful, would not yield military benefit.
