Lichty and Black Companies Clash Over Park and Sycamore Property
A complex lease and purchase dispute centers on a half block at Park and Sycamore. Lichty holds a 99 year lease from Meyers with a 84 years remaining, while the Black Company plans a transfer of the ground lease and building title. First purchase rights, and historic tenants including Brady & Sons livery, are noted along with the area’s early commercial development near Dubuque and Sioux City. Local description places the scene at a former Groves house, later an A J Knapp office and yard for Waterloo Monument Company, and a connecting storeroom on Third Street East. A later snowfall in Richmond, Virginia, reports about an inch in the city and coastal areas, with heavier amounts inland.
