Excess baggage rate lowered by Iowa railroad board
Iowa railroad commissioners reduce minimum excess baggage rate to 10 cents per 100 pounds after December 1, 1917, when passenger fares are 60 cents or less. The decision follows a long campaign by C K R Rohde for the Travelers Protective Association of Iowa and the Iowa Manufacturers' Association. The board denied two related requests including free baggage carriage to 200 pounds and extended free storage time, and ordered carriers to amend schedules to a 10 to 19 cent scale per 100 pounds for business within Iowa.
