A Few Things Professor Holden Has Done for Iowa Corn Culture
Professor Holden of Ames promoted corn improvement over two decades starting with schoolyard seed selection in Michigan. He later led Funk Brothers farm yields from 40 to 70 bushels per acre, helped found Iowa State College agronomy work, and organized seed testing, short courses, and statewide seed demonstrations. The Seed Corn Special train toured 21 counties, delivering 1,265 lectures to 169,000 farmers, boosting Iowa corn yields by about four bushels per acre and adding roughly 12.3 million dollars statewide in 1906 terms.
