Carpathian and Transylvanian Alps reach high, passes are narrow and defensible, and once across mountains the invader faces easier ground, says a diplomatic official familiar with Roumania and gens von Falkenhayn. He notes Austro-German gains are hard to hold, and snow and rain cap the mountains, with many natural obstacles. If Russia and guns do not stiffen Roumanian resistance, the invaders may push deeper, while Danube passes could ease conquest if met by superior forces. The plan aims to drive across Roumania from both sides at its narrowest point, controlling Danube border and closing navigation to the Black Sea, potentially cutting supplies to Constantinople.
