Chicago, Nov 13 AP Durkin an automobile thief and killer may be drowned in the Chicago River or may have staged a death hoax. Handwriting matching clothing found on a Michigan Boulevard bridge was confirmed by his sister. Coast guards hunted the river all night as a bloodstained letter and torn garments tied to his escape from an earlier firefight and a fatal apartment fight with Lloyd Austin and Sgt. Murry Gray surfaced. Durkin had previously killed federal agent Howard Shanahan and fled after a garage theft arrest attempt. The letter claimed love for his mother and a woman named Mrs. Delly Wenett and begged to start a new life.
