Federal officers detain three men after a train incident near Cresion Ja Norv involving a car behind a limited passenger train carrying eight boxes of gold bullion about 190 pounds each. Lieut Col Palmer E Percy, formerly of Tracr now at Camp Upton, NY, awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for wartime work with the War Industries Board and training camps activities. He served on the general staff in Washington and commanded a brigade in France.
Davenport police arrested bride Mrs Joseph Roughan and best man Owen Pannen after a courthouse ceremony in Scott county. The two face charges of leading a moral life while the groom, said to be 73, denied the age claims. Guardianship petitions and disputes over funds and inheritance arose as witnesses described the union and the alleged mishandling of money.
A. B. H. Coppock, former Crawford county resident, seeks invalidation of his prior penitentiary sentence for cheating by false pretenses. He allegedly drew a bank check with no funds, served time in the state prison, and now lives in Carroll county. He requests a new trial to clear the record.
A cider engineer at the county courthouse in Sioux City, Wilkinson, died instantly Tuesday after falling from a scaffold while inspecting boilers in the county building. No witness to the accident. His body was found by a fireman. Officials believe he fell while checking the boilers as part of his routine.
Kraft Bebe clothing store in Emmetsburg Iowa was robbed Tuesday night of goods valued between 1000 and 2000 dollars. The crime occurred while the American Legion held a dance in the adjacent building. No robbers have been found yet.
