Harding declares his Tu esday victory by about 13 000 was a rebuke of Democratic attack ads and draft discontent He says the soldier vote pleased him most and notes national results favor a national rather than sectional federal government He calls for denationalizing reconstruction to restore state and local power.
Des Moines November 5 organized labor in Iowa will be asked to donate one day's wages as a minimum for the United War Work Campaign starting November 11. Iowa unions, with more than 49 000 wage earners, plan to contribute toward the state quota of 6 123 000, many offering more than the minimum. F A Canfield of Cedar Rapids, president of the Iowa State Federation of Labor, endorses the plan and praised Iowa’s past war efforts.
In Fontanelle Iowa a peace celebration turned comic as men and boys shot their hats full of holes after word spread that Germany had signed the armistice terms. Hats flew into the air and the town’s male population appeared hatless in a festive, if raucous, display.
Town Falls November 9 Ed Johns of the southeast part of the county owns a threshing outfit built by Aultman-Taylor Company in 1879.
