Des Moines reports show Iowa total vote around 60,900 with Cox receiving 634,800 and Cummins 527,418. Herring carried six counties while losing Park and Marion narrowly. Plan for code revision conference proposed by lawmakers

Senator Walter Anderson and Representative James J. Weaver circulate letters inviting a conference of six to study the code revision program between the state fair meeting and the legislative session. Scott County Buys Seventy Voting Machines

Scott County supervisors approve purchasing 70 voting machines from the Universal Registering Machine Co to be used in all precincts. The 18 extra units beyond last year’s 52 were retained for the general election and will be bought, totaling 66,006 dollars to avoid shipping and delays.

Bigamy Case Shocks Boone as Nelson Faces Charge

Walter J Nelson was arrested in Chicago and to be sent to Boone to answer bigamy charges. He allegedly married Lucille Phipps during a meeting of Boone Tribal college alumni, after drinking, and claimed a Chicago wife and three children. Police notified Chicago authorities. Kelly Brothers to Edit Tribune in Sioux City

Will of John C. Kelly former editor and publisher of the Sioux City Tribune filed for probate. His fortune largely goes to relatives. Three sons take control of the paper with Maj. John H. Kelly as editor Eugene Kelly as business manager and Gardner Kelly as director.

Jamaica Ginger Raids Highlight Prohibition Era Trade

Cedar Rapids reports a large Jamaica ginger seizure labeled a whisky substitute. A pharmacist, William Zimmerman, was arrested after agents found nearly 100 bottles awaiting sale and 500 bottles “killed” plus 20 gallons of ginger in jars. He claimed customers bought it as medicine.
