Larger farms may merge smaller units in future farming
Renick W. Dunlap, assistant secretary of agriculture, told the Ohio State Real Estate convention that future farming could feature large-scale operations with smaller farms merging into bigger units. He cited western states where combine machinery reduces labor per acre and noted gradual change in Ohio and faster shifts elsewhere. He described the farmer of the future as a business manager, pondering whether corporate ownership becomes common and stressing that many large farms remain owned by individuals or partnerships rather than corporations, with group or manager farming growing in the Corn Belt.
