Hansen Holsteins Set Seven Day Milking Records
Thomas Nansen’s purebred Holsteins near Cedar Falls lead in milk and butterfat production. Six recent seven day records mark high yields, with two five year olds each producing about 30 pounds of butter in a week. Other cows range from 19 to 25 pounds of butter in seven days. The herd, boosted by the Dairy Cow Test Association, has doubled butterfat per cow since 12 years ago, now averaging around 428 pounds butterfat in the last year.
