Iowa industries show October rise in employment data
The Iowa bureau reports October employment up 0.1 percent from September with nine of reporting firms at part time and one closed. In seven largest cities, a 1.2 percent October over September gain. Burlington up 1.0, Waterloo up 1.0, while Cedar Rapids down 9.0, Davenport down 2.0, Des Moines down 1.8, Dubuque down 1.2, Sioux City down 1.9. Manufacturing groups show mixed results with food, textiles, lumber, leather, paper and chemicals posting gains and tobacco posting declines.

Volume of building permits rises in nine months
Report shows September losses of 2.2 percent and August gains of 2.7 percent. Among 1000 firms surveyed in October, outlook rated good by 44, fair by 25, and poor by remaining respondents. Nine month totals in 15 cities reveal permit value gains over the prior year with Des Moines and Cedar Rapids posting notable increases.
Paving Firm to Store Machinery in Iowa Facility
McKengle Eileen Construction of Superior Wisconsin will operate in Iowa next year. It has rented space from Zeidler Concrete Products Machinery in Newell and Beach streets to store paving machinery until spring rather than ship to Superior. The company recently completed paying for a highway in Black Hawk county. Shoulder work on the stretch will extend in a few days and the new pavement is expected to open around November 8. A 4 pound cod caught by Mrs Ivan Brown of Franklin Ohio during a recent fishing trip was the focal point of a family moment.
