Corn Pork Ratio Shifts With Corn and Hog Prices
Washington May 29 producers note that corn price movements drive hog production. A government chart, the hog corn ratio, shows declines since mid 1926 with two interruptions. In June 1926 the ratio stood at 18.7 and fell to 8.74 by March, then 6.4 in April, signaling more profitable feeding than selling. By mid 1927 rising corn prices and falling hog prices reversed the trend, with the ratio dropping to 3.4 in June.
