Norway intends to spearhead relief for Roald Amundsen and Ellsworth explorers after their polar flight departed from Spitzbergen. Norwegian officials emphasize that any relief must await confirmation of Amundsen’s status, with preparations underway and two naval planes requested.
Miss Fidella A. Amos daughter of Mr and Mrs J Amos married George P Green at the Little Brown Church near Nashua in a small ceremony officiated by Rev B E Schaefer. The couple will reside in Des Moines after a brief wedding trip. Green is connected with Lafayette Univ Chicago and a Des Moines temporary home. Mrs Green, formerly with Waterloo Savings Bank, is active in music and women’s clubs.
Des Moines delegates plan a bid to move the National Osteopathic convention to Des Moines next year. W C Edson predicts motor bus issues and tax cuts will dominate the 1927 Iowa legislative session. John F Dalton, veteran publisher, remains hospital bound in St Paul after paralysis attack. Sioux City hosts over 150 western Iowa physicians at a hospital hangout. Marshalltown votes to fund a new high and junior high with a $400000 bond, carried by 900. Mrs Floyd Taylor of Ireton is fatally injured in a Sioux City crash. Lorenzo Siliman of Boone wins Coe College speaking contest on Foreign Debts. George Otto of Racine second. Cedar Rapids schools state no closure over smallpox scare. 13 cases reported. Sioux City Street Car Co announces wage cuts effective June 1 lowering pay by 1 cent with workers seeking 8 cent rise. Arbitration to decide the difference as attorney Fred T Bene and former Mayor Wallace Wright represent employees. workers had been paid 8 cents an hour.
City clerk Charles MacKay filed a 102 report detailing the playground commission year activity. Warrants totaling 3498.00 were issued while indebtedness reached 3740.02. Expenses included directors salary 499.05 travel, supplies and agricultural items 49.95 mimeograph 64.00, gymnasium rent 224.00, sanitary upkeep 512.00, stenographer 21.40, printing and postage 315.40, and telephone telegraph 0.41.
City engineer Ralph B. Slippy reports Waterloo faces an 80000 dollar cost for a Cedar river sewage disposal plant to curb pollution. The plan is for submittal to the state board of health in Des Moines next Monday. The Cedar river conference will include all Cedar cities. Slippy will represent Nashua and Waverly.
A Justice Department agent arrives from Omaha to investigate an alleged auto theft ring operating near Waterloo. The first car is linked to John Logan, jailed for thefts from Albert Lea, Minn. Logan drove it to Waverly, obtained an Iowa license, then sold to Greg Seery, a Waterloo barber, in good faith. Emil Steffens traced the original engine numbers to confirm the theft.

In Longview last night a passenger train on the International and Great Northern line from Dallas to St. Louis left the rails on a curve and plunged down an embankment near here. Eleven cars derailed. Three men died including unidentified Black crewman and engineer whos names appear as Lem Tarbottos and WH Geitth. Further details not yet available.

John Herman Phinney nine son of Mr and Mrs Ell Phinney of Martin street is recovering from facial and hip bruises after a bicycle collision on Fourth Street West near the city limits at 530 pm Thursday. The car was driven by Daniel Meyers of Durven street. Phinney was taken home and a doctor deemed unnecessary. the bicycle was wrecked beyond repair.
Approximately five students led the annual parade of Mecotlese and Ll women’s societies on the campus this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Each society displayed its colors as the march crossed the campus. The organizations then met for their final year program at their respective headquarters.
Sheriff Herman T. Wagner believes two threatening letters are the work of youths. A guard protected Bert Mattingly's Cedar Falls home overnight after a demand for 4000 dollars left in a barn area. Another warning demanded 35000 in a mailbox. a third note threatened poisoning if payments did not arrive.
On May 29 Walter C. Ramsay secretary of state acts as Iowa’s governor while Gov. Hammill and Lieut. Gov. Kimball are out of state. The governor travels to Olivia Minnesota for Quivnx high school graduation where his niece Velma Patrick, formerly of Britt, is in the class. Kimball is reported in Excelsior Springs Missouri.

The report attributed the financial troubles of to competition with motor busses Panama Canal and the one and short Nat clause of the interstate commerce romanusian act, a heavy increase in operation cost and recent depression in agriculture.
May 20 news notes a population rise in Town City per the offical census data. County records show an increase of over 285 compared with Loth County figures. An inmate at the state prison was electrocuted this morning following a separate incident.
New York May 29 Rev Dr Harry Emerson Fosdick, modern ist, to preach his first sermon in the Rockefeller Park Avenue Baptist church after accepting its call. The church will drop Baptism from its name and abandon immersion. Fosdick to earn 3000 a year and plan a free church for all Christians. He will become permanent pastor in fall 1926 after a Europe trip. Current pastor Rev Cornelius Woelfin retires next January.
F C Robison was found guilty of illegal transportation of liquor and fined 100 dollars plus costs by Judge John W. Gwyone. Robison could not pay and will serve a county jail sentence. Farmers Galen and Holbach testified, describing Robison’s dash along the La Porte road and the can emptied on the ground, with witnesses noting the odor of alcohol.

Chicago May 29 witnesses in the William D. Shepherd murder case were allegedly offered bribes. Chief Crowe ordered four men detained as detectives searched underworld dens. Crowe vowed not to reveal names until in custody.
Gihert of New Hampton Indiana waived preliminary hearing on a charge of driving while intoxicated after his car struck a woman’s vehicle on Logan avenue just outside city limits. He posted 500 dollars bond and was released. Bail was provided. He suffered a badly injured right hand in the crash. Building permits were issued for two frame dwellings by building commissioner Charles Wasson. K V Stevenson will base has cost 35000 on Kingbard hill and Frodo. Seger will erect and lease costing 2500 at LOG Frank street.
Confirmation of rumors that Mae Murray has been formally divorced from Robert Leonard in Paris was announced. The actress testified that her husband kept her from their home, and the decree was granted in unusually swift fashion.
Sioux City May 29 Mrs Mike Fill sought to raise 260 with which to pay two fines and avoid jail on possession of a liquor making outfit. She appeared in court with a six week old baby. Claiming forty years old she looked fifty. On her attorney's plea she was given ten days to pay the fine.

Adjutant Norman Marshall head of the Salvation Army in Iowa and his secretary Arthur Ainsworth will arrive in Waterloo tomorrow morning and hold services in the hall tomorrow evening and on Sunday. They will also conduct services in Cedar Falls tomorrow afternoon.

Lovis Crynes died in Oregon. she was born January 9, 1850 in France and lived in the area most of her life. Funeral services were held at St Athanasius Church with burial in the local cemetery. James Stephen Morris, born 1855, died May 24 at Morgan, Minnesota. He married Nancy A. Wagner in 1886 and leaves two sons and a daughter, four grandchildren. Funeral services were at the M. I. church with burial at the local cemetery. Relatives in Jesup attend from Waterloo and nearby towns.
