Wild West Rider Fatally Trampled at Des Moines Carnival

Edward Ward, 25, of Webb City Missouri, is severely injured after a 1860 pound horse collapsed during a wild west performance on Fifth Street at the Moose Carnival. He lies at Samaritan hospital with internal injuries. doctors fear death. Witnesses say the horse slipped and fell, hurling Ward into the air. The animal was uninjured.

Police seize home brew in Riverside Ave raid

Officers captured 11 quarts of whiskey and 118 quarts of homemade brew at 1629 Riverside Avenue. It marked the third seizure by police in as many days, following arrests of suspected bootleggers including Capt. James O’Keefe and C. N. McMillan. A “For Sale Act” notice also appears in the Courier.

Pioneer resident dies at Hampton after long illness

Hampton Ta May 29 worded obituary notes the death at home of a long time resident born August 8 1841 in Kingston who served in the Civil War and later farmed in Buller County before moving to Hampton.
