Organized groups to fight higher railroad valuations

Chicago May 26 William Jennings Bryan addressed the railroad valuation conference urging a united front to oppose higher railroad valuation and rate increases. He backed Senator La Follette and warned Wall Street against monopolies while labor unions, shippers, clubs, and farmers planned to mobilize across states. The gathering, led by La Follette, included women’s groups and governors. The plan aims to push the fight through the interstate commerce commission, courts, and possibly Congress, with a controversial questionnaire denounced as railroad-inspired.
