Waterloo Builds a Grand New Theatre in Cedar Rapids Style
Waterloo plans a 1,300 seat moving picture palace at Fourth and Mulberry, the Majestic rival, built by Ford and Dievold. The project, costing over 100000 dollars, will include a front of enamel brick or Bedford stone, a mezzanine, nurseries, and modern light and ventilation. The theatre will anchor a local chain with Cedar Rapids Strand and Palace houses and a Regent acquisition in Mason City. A nearby modern cottage design for sale features a central living room, sun parlor, two upstairs rooms, two baths, and planned cost of 4500 to 5500 dollars. The project follows transfer of church property to Cedar Rapids interests after a state-church deed clearance.

Peculiar Rock Formations Found in Building Excavation
In the Jefferson building excavation at Jefferson street and Park avenue, limestone rock columns about eight feet apart were found extending along the basement width. The columns, not solid rock but a cluster of similarly sized rocks, remained visible beyond the excavated area. Subsoil between the columns was red sand and clay, easily removed. The rock will be reused in the construction. Local geologists note the formation as unique to Waterloo excavations, with one theory suggesting ancient crust upheaval.
