Ruth Herfurth fourteen-year-old from Waterloo wins the Bron trophy at Des Moines for writing the greatest number of words on a typewriter in a minute during the Central Commercial Teachers convention. She records 553 16/60 words in sixty seconds and earns a gold medal and $25 from Smith Premier.Bruce Gates of Waterloo is her closest rival. Herfurth attends Waterloo College of Commerce and is praised by President Eklund and instructor Mrs Barton.

Bandit Loses Ear in Omaha Robbery
