Peep Show Pictures Still Profit in Penny Arcades
Hollywood, May 20. Walter Hiers is pictured in a one cent peep show view for a strip production. Harry Blanc runs a Hollywood plant producing up to 500 tiny stereoscopic pictures yearly for penny arcades. He employs two or three actors at $7.50 to $10 a day and creates rapid series of short films shown in peep show devices. These are not true motion pictures but mimic movement through a Kinematoscope style mechanism. Demand has surged 500 percent since 1917, with Westerns and broad comedies dominating the slate while educational subjects underperformed.
