Postal Savings Expanded to Include Rural Offices
Postal savings to GE extended as Waterloo office reports below normal activity. The program now allows anyone aged ten and up to open an account via local postmasters in sparse communities and send deposits by money order or registered mail to designated banking points. Postmaster General Burleson notes rapid growth with 500,000 depositors, many foreign-born, despite a $500 per bank limit. In Waterloo since 1911 there have been 167 depositors, averaging about 40 at a time, with 31 records noted.
