Huge Sum Urged For Baltic Basin Aid By Davison

Des Moines May 17 Henry F P Davison of J P Morgan chairman of the League of Red Cross Societies told the Methodist conference that a vast relief program is needed for central and eastern Europe. He urged Congress to appropriate up to 500 million dollars and to appoint a nonpolitical three member American commission to survey conditions and allocate relief without interference. He named figures such as General Pershing Herbert Hoover and former Secretary Lane as potential commissioners. He warned that epidemics and famine threaten millions in nations from the Baltic to the Adriatic and urged American leadership to mobilize other governments in aid and repayment over 15 years.

Fort Dodge Labor Seeks Iowa Labor Party Endorsement

Fort Dodge delegates to the Iowa State Federation of Labor convention on Tuesday agreed to lead the fight for endorsing an Iowa labor party. If no other group presents a resolution, they will submit one to the resolutions committee, which will include members who favor a farmers’ workingmen’s party. Both resolutions and constitution committees face the political issue. a labor party resolution would require revising state constitutional sections on union labor remaining free from corruption.
