New Moines May 16 All vacant offices or unnamed appointments in state departments pending action by Gov Hammill will be filled by the end of next week. The appointments include a state banking board and a highway commissioner along with vacancies on other boards where members finish terms July 2. Hammill will leave for Maine to attend a council of governors the latter part of June and all appointments pending will be made before that time.

Mt Pleasant Iowa May 11 E 8 Shellhouse alleged by Klux klan organizer fined 59 dollars by Mayor A H Magdefray at Wayland for holding a public meeting without a permit. He lost his appeal in district court after a 36 hour jury deliberation and announced plans to appeal to the state supreme court.

Waterloo Woman's Club plans to send 14 delegates to the Des Moines convention of the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs. Delegates were chosen at the club's April meeting with each delegate selecting an alternate. Names mentioned include Leon Paul Fleming and Trace Stephen Johns among others.

Des Moines May 16 B F Thomas a 45 year old night clerk at the Central State hotel was found bound and gagged in a closet off the lobby. He was attacked by unknown persons and a small amount of money was taken from the hotel desk drawer.
London May 16 Women inventors have filed more patents in England in recent months than ever before. Many devices are labor saving for households without servants. A notable invention is an electric dish washing machine that cleans a family’s dishes in minutes at a tiny cost. Mrs M Bolton, a prominent British inventor, leads efforts to commercialize labor saving devices and is grandniece of Sir William Davy.
