Leadership and the Silent President in a Fractured Era

It argues Coolidge’s restrained style invites the public to seek leaders in others, while Mellon embodies a surge of leadership longing. The piece notes how Pennsylvania politics elevate Mellon as a national symbol and recalls a frank White House exchange on Mellon’s debt settlements and public influence.
