A fragment describes a two story dwelling with living room connected by a cased opening to a dining area. It notes two upstairs rooms with closets and a bath, full basement, hardwood floors, and pine finishes. Construction cost stated at 1375 dollars excluding heating and plumbing with plans offered for 1 dollar.
Highway Engineer Nathan B Barber reports Logan avenue near Mt Vernon and Eagle Center road near Eagle township are active with grader outfits. Crews grade and drain dirt roads while graveling and permanent surface work will come later. The county patrols oversee regular drag and maintenance to keep grades in good condition.
Bridge crews repair approaches and fill ruts on rural roads while large washed out spans are replaced. New 120 foot bridges with three 35 foot spans rise over the Black Hawk north of Cedar Falls Junction and over Cedar east of La Porte City, using Waterloo Construction on site. Miller-Hey Construction handles a double concrete arch at Twenty fourth and Main in Cedar Falls, part of 1915 county bridge contract work.
J A Zook of Zook and Bentz considers a 20 family apartment house at Fifth and Walnut Waterloo. The brick hot water heated building would replace the Ysrael property with outside front suites elevator and janitor service. Site offers 62 by 10 feet and is near Waterloo’s business district now expanding toward the new commercial boundary.
Last week three acre tracts in Cedar Heights were sold. Two buyers plan to build this spring and a third is considering erecting a dwelling.
The Waterloo West school board plans two major improvements. Expenditure ranges between 30 000 and 20 000 dollars for Whittier building adaptation, with an additional two story brick structure on Smanuel Lutheran property at Walkout and Fifth streets costing 15 000 to 16 000 dollars. One room addition will be ready soon.
